One of my students is a second grade boy, and his science teacher does hands-on activities with him every day. They go outside and look at plants, do experiments, and keep a science journal with all of their hypotheses and results. This week, they planted an onion I brought from my kitchen. It had been forgotten on a shelf, and it had grown copious green shoots without aid of soil or sun. Now it has a home in a ceramic pot near my window.

They have set up a science experiment in the conference room, testing seeds in various environments (those are the plastic bags). Also, the orange poppy (which made me think of Rebekah!) is about to burst from its pod, and the Calendula's color is called "Calypso Yellow."

My school is in a small, non-descript strip mall in downtown Woodinville, next to a dog groomer and a hair salon, but there are pockets of life and color to get me through the day. I hope your day is filled with life and color today, too!
Love,
Rachel
